The About Page
where we learn about Eva, the Two Rivers series, and her cat.
About Eva
Born in Vancouver to Jamaican and Finnish parents, and raised further north on the traditional territory of the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation, Eva Dawes is a cross-border writer, student, teacher and organizer. She has historically written and published literary short fiction, but has always adored the Romance genre, especially the smutty stuff. Light in Our Eyes is her first book-length publication.
Eva is also passionate about and invested in the power of collective struggle. She hopes to continue to share this passion with her readers and writing colleagues.

About Two Rivers
The Two Rivers series marks Eva Dawes’ first kick at romance, specifically erotic ‘vampire’ romance. The series is a product of Eva’s small obsession with this genre, but it is also a product of frustration. The idea for it came to her while she was listening to an erotic vampire romance series on audiobook that shall not be named, where the vampires were all big subscribers to homophobia and toxic masculinity. It is weird to be a student of history while encountering such depictions, knowing that these oppressive ideologies are actually relatively new developments. How fascinating and frustrating to see very modern and very human taboos projected onto mythical beings older than recorded time. Vampires, in Eva’s opinion, should be gay. And poly. Pansexual gender fluid poly craftspeople vampires. The future the left wants!
This is how and why she began writing a scene on a lonely December night that would eventually become the first section of the Prologue to Light in Our Eyes. Be the smut you wish to see in the world, as they say.
Book Two of this series is already in the works. Stay tuned!
About the Cat
Listen. You all want to know about Eva’s cat. Her pikkupoika. Her sweetest pea.
Aurinki aka Sweet Pea aka The Baddest One aka Punkin-Butt is a five year old sphynx who is objectively handsome and good. Eva will brook no argument on this subject.
He likes to sleep with his face touching someone else’s face. He likes to hold hands. He has intense FOMO. Nothing is worse to him than a closed door he can’t see through. He wrote half of Light in Our Eyes in his sleep.
A proletarian hero. Celebrate him.
